Bactrim DS is a combination antibiotic medicine with the active ingredient sulfamethoxazole. Bactrim DS works against bacterial infections such as urinary tract, respiratory, and skin infections. It is used for treating various types of bacterial infections. The dosage and duration of treatment depend on the type of infection. For children, the usual adult dosage is 1 tablet in a 24-hour period. It should be taken as needed before and for 4-6 hours after a meal. Children and adolescents should take this medicine with a full glass of water.
